Module summary

This module enables absolute beginner students to develop their language skills up to A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). Language Learning in this module is student-centred and task-based. The classroom is conceived as a social space for communication. Listening, reading, writing, speaking, interaction and mediation tasks will be set. Please note this is an optional module and runs subject to enrolments. If a low number of students choose this module, then the module may not run and you may be asked to choose another module.

Objectives

To develop their language skills and competence up to CEFRL A1 level/equivalent.

Teaching is divided into a series of units, developing various important skills, such as the ability to work in a team, to a deadline, and the ability to assimilate and organize language material and present it in a given register, style and context.

Students should also develop an awareness of the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

LO1. Understand and familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases with a specific communicative purpose in written and oral contexts.

LO2. Introduce themselves and others and ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have in written and oral contexts.

LO3. Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help in written and oral contexts.

Skills Learning Outcomes::
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:

SO4. To communicate and understand basic information in Spanish about themselves in a variety of formats, written and oral, in a visually engaging way and clearly and concisely.

SO5. The ability to work independently and to identify strengths and areas of excellence and improvement in their own learning

SO6. The ability to consider options, use and apply your judgement, to communicate in another language

Practical Oral Exam arranged by the module leader, not centrally timetabled. Resit for the oral component will take the form of an online oral exam arranged by the module leader.
